This is the maiden post of Sampaguita Nation and today also happens to be the first SONA of President Rodrigo Duterte. Aside from looking forward to the new President’s speech, we are also looking forward to what the people attending the SONA are wearing so here are our Top 5 looks from this year’s SONA!
1. Senator Grace Poe
On this year’s SONA, Senator Grace Poe sported a simple white dress with floral embroidery which is our favorite of all the SONA outfits that are not Filipiñana.
2. Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate
Rep. Zarate is clad in a Barong Tagalog with blue prints on the right side. The printed portion of his barong depicts a family and words related to Peace. It’s also noteworthy that the word “Peace” itself forms the body of the dove in the design which – you guessed it! Is the representation of peace! In fact, if the song “Love Love Peace Peace” were an article of clothing, Rep. Zarate’s barong would be it!
3. Vice President Leni Robredo and daughters
Now this is what you call #FamilyGoals. Leni Robredo and her daughters are all clad in terno for this year’s SONA.
4. Ifugao Rep. Teddy Brawner Baguilat Jr.
Rep. Baguilat is clad in the Ifugao traditional wear which is a first in the SONA as most people who attend the SONA either show up in semi-formal wear or Filipiñana. It’s great to see more of our ethnic groups being represented in the SONA red carpet. I hope the same can be said with their representation in our country’s policies.
5. Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas & Yasmine Espiritu-Vargas
If the Robredos gave us the #FamilyGoals, the Vargas’ is serving us with #RelationshipGoals. Here we have Rep. Vargas clad in a Barong with embroidery that look like dandelions. Meanwhile, Mrs. Espiritu-Vargas is clad in a knee-length sky-blue terno with embroidery in white.
