Last year, Steve Harvey temporarily earned the ire of both Filipino and Colombian beauty pageant fans when he announced the wrong winner at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. Everyone thought then that his hosting career would be over (even with all the public apologies he made to both the Miss Universe winner and her 1st runner up).
Turns out, his hosting career isn’t done with after all!
On July 29, 2016, the Family Feud host was announced by an official of the Department of Tourism to be the host of the Miss Universe 2017 pageant to be held here in the Philippines. It is noted that he had told the Miss Universe organization that he wants to apologize to the Filipinos and Pia Wurtzbach (the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder).
According to DOT Undersecretary Kat de Castro, even President Rodrigo Duterte found the idea ridiculous, saying that "Why? He is a disaster." to which the DOT undersecretary replied to with "Sir, looks like that’s really the decision of the people from Miss Universe."
These of course, are what Filipino netizens have to say to Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe 2017 hosting gig:
Steve Harvey hosting future editions of the Miss Universe pageant is not a surprise though as he is under a multi-year contract with the pageant. The contract which was signed a few days before the 2015 pageant aired could last from three to seven years.
