If you’re looking for benefit concerts to attend this time around, you’re in luck because next week is the Project Sampaguita 2016, a benefit dinner-concert for the poor of Cebu hosted by the Kalinangan Youth Foundation.
Why is this concert worth attending? You may ask. Well for one thing, you don’t just get to watch performances on this concert but you are served dinner as well. Not to mention that the headlining act for this year’s Project Sampaguita is the Koro Madrigal – they are alumni of the Philippine Madrigal Singers so if you’ve always wanted to watch a concert featuring the Philippine Madrigal Singers, this one will definitely do!
Not to mention that it’s not every day that you get to see them perform in other parts of the country. Apart from that, by attending this concert, you also get to help the poor of Cebu City – so not only are you enjoying performances from the alumni of our country’s premier choral group but you are also able to make a difference to the lives of less fortunate people as well.
When did it all start?
Project Sampaguita is an endeavor of the Kalinangan Youth Foundation (also known as KALFI; a foundation that equips girls of diverse backgrounds the skills and training needed to become leaders) that started way back in 2014. The endeavor is a dinner-concert for a cause that has always been held at the Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu since it started. The Banilad Center for Professional Development (a technical-vocational school specializing in the Tourism industry) organizes this event along with KALFI.
This is one of the performances during the first year of the Project Sampaguita:
What is in store for this year’s Project Sampaguita?
The theme of this year’s Project Sampaguita is “The music of mercy, the fragrance of family” which is taken from the Roman Catholic Church’s international celebration of “The Jubilee Year of Mercy” and the Philippine Roman Catholic Church’s celebration of “The Year of the Family and The Eucharist” (which is part of the Philippine Roman Catholic Church’s celebrations counting down to its 500th year in our country this 2021).
When is it going to be held and where is it going to be held this year?
This year’s Project Sampaguita takes place on August 10, 2016 (Wednesday), 5:30 in the evening at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu’s Ballroom.
Is there a dress code?
At the very least, wearing a business attire will do for the benefit concert-dinner but you can also show up in semi-formal attire.
