Miss Universe 2016 Preliminaries: Our Top 5 picks for National Costume

Another exciting part of the Preliminaries is the showcase of each candidate’s National Costume and these are our five favorites!

Although the National Costume Show is separate from the Preliminaries, it is still considered a part of the Preliminaries and it is one of the crucial factors behind a candidate’s chance of entering the Miss Universe Top 12 on the account of the public vote. As for the jury votes, the National Costume is not included in the scoring components.

Without further ado, here are our Top 5 picks for the National Costume!

1. Argentina

What we love about it: Her national costume gives out a festival queen-meets-Xena vibe. This is one fiercely beautiful costume!

2. Canada

What we love about it: This national costume is the epitome of Canada – a cold yet joyful place to be in (dispelling the common notion that cold place = sad place). In addition to that, you gotta love how her costume still stands out even though it’s not your usual sparkly national costume decked with feathers. You go, Miss Canada! Four for you!

3. Austria

What we love about it: Her national costume is a reference to The Sound of Music! She’s definitely getting plus points from the musical fans among the public voters.

4. Czech Republic

65th Miss Universe Competition

What we love about it: Miss Czech Republic totally looks like a Slavic Goddess here – and yes, this is another stand-out national costume that isn’t decked with glitter and feathers (like 90% of the Miss Universe national costumes).

5. Denmark

65th Miss Universe Competition

What we love about it: While this national costume uses sequins, it’s not tacky. Also, we gotta love the chiffon sleeves and trailing that comes with this national costume.
